TOP HAT TERRACE EXTRAVAGANZA

We are very excited to announce that this year, in line with our Victorian theme at Summer Sundae, we will be delving into Leicester’s history and celebrating the little known legend that is Francis ‘Tanky’ Smith, Leicester’s first private detective and creator of the London Road landmark ‘Top Hat Terrace’.

In celebration of the weird and wonderful world of Tanky, we will be embarking on a Top Hat Terrace Extravaganza

Come and gaze at a pedal powered Top Hat Terrace installation from Electric Pedals, keep an eye on an evolving sand sculpture of Tanky himself by world champion and Leicester local sand sculptor Nicola Wood, embark on a QR Digital Art trail curated by Cuttlefish, join in the competition for the best top hat in the unimaginable world of the From Dusk 2 Dawn Imaginarium, and don’t miss Sunday’s talk on The Bandstand from local historian and all round Tanky expert John Harrison.

New area and theme for summer sundae!

After the success of last year’s beach theme, this year we will be taking a trip back in time to bring some Victoriana to Victoria Park. To accompany the new Victorian theme we are also introducing a brand new area called Curiosity Corner which will be located between The Garden and The Village.

An array of performers on the brand new Victorian Bandstand Stage will be presenting music, storytelling, poetry readings, theatre and more throughout the weekend.

• Talks will include that from the UK’s only professional Penny Farthing rider and cycling historian Roger Lovell.

• Music from the Foresters Brass Ensemble, one of Leicester’s oldest brass bands, and Harp for Hangovers.

• Award winning Storyteller Rachel Rose Reid will be performing throughout the weekend.

Plus don't miss our Vintage Fair and an extra special Top Hat Terrace Extravaganza inspired by unsung local legend Francis Tanky Smith – more on this soon!
