This One's For Ruby

Ruby Lambert and her parents were regular Summer Sundae Weekender attendees until April 2010 when Ruby collapsed at school from heart failure, caused by a rare, previously undiagnosed heart rhythm disorder called CPVT. Ruby suffered a terrible brain injury as a result and is now quadriplegic, she currently receiving treatment at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where she lives with her parents. Mercury Prize nominees and Summer Sundae Weekender 2011 performers, King Creosote and Jon Hopkins visited Ruby in Philadelphia in July, treating Ruby to her very own pre festival performance in the hospital gardens.

Ruby is responding well to treatment but still has a long way to go; her parents have set up the Ruby Lambert Trust and hope to raise £300,000 in order to fund Ruby’s specialist treatment in the USA and give her the best chance of recovery. They recently launched the ‘Skip One Coffee a Week’ campaign, encouraging people to skip a coffee a week and donate the money saved to help fund Ruby’s treatment.

A picture of a smiling Ruby enjoying the festival has previously appeared in Summer Sundae promotional material and her story has recently been featured as part of BBC Leicester’s stories project. The stories project will be continuing at Summer Sundae with BBC Leicester rolling up in their BBC bus to record festival anecdotes and collect your stories of Summer Sundae moments and memories. We’re hoping that Ruby and her parents will make it back to the festival in the future to make some more Summer Sundae memories of their own.

To read more on Ruby’s story, the campaign, fundraising events and for details on how to make a donation please visit www.one4ruby.com.
