We actively encourage our festival goers to help reduce their carbon footprint by thinking of greener ways of travel. The festival is just 10 minutes’ walk from the Leicester mainline railway station or you can cycle safe in the knowledge that your bike will be ok in our secure Bike Park. The Summer Sundae Weekender is very proud to be the holder of the Greener Festival Award for its efforts on reducing its environmental impact.

Train

Located in the heart of the East Midlands Leicester is easily reached by train and it’s only a 10 minute walk from the train station to the Festival site at De Montfort Hall. The station is located on London Road (A6) with East Midlands Trains providing regular services from London at just 70 mins and routes to major cities across the UK such as Derby, Nottingham, Lincoln, Sheffield and Leeds. Further services are provided by CrossCountry to destinations such as Birmingham, Cambridge and Stansted Airport.

Bus

National Express operates from St Margaret's Bus Station in the city centre, visit the National Express website for more information.

You can catch the following local buses to get to the festival site:

  • Arriva from St Margaret's Bus Station No 48
  • First Leicester from Charles Street No 22
  • Arriva from Charles Street No 31, No 31A, No 30 & No 30a

These buses all set down at the Saxby Street bus stop on London Road. From there walk up to the traffic lights, cross over and walk straight along University Road. At the second set of traffic lights (Regent Road/University Road crossroads) cross over and turn left, De Montfort Hall is on your right, only five minutes walk from the bus stop.

Car

Summer Sundae Weekender is a green festival and actively encourages the use of public transport. If you really must use the car, try liftshare – meet other festival goers to share the journey and the costs! Visit the liftshare website for more info.

De Montfort Hall is situated at the top of Regent Road on the edge of Victoria Park. Located just one mile south of Leicester’s City Centre, the Hall is well signposted on the inner ring road. If using the M1 come off at junction 21 and follow the signs for the outer ring road (Leicester South and East A563), turning left along the A50 or A6 when signposted.

Parking

If you really do need to bring the car and you've been before, you'll know that parking around the festival site can be difficult. Once again we have joined together with NCP for a discounted car parking charge especially for the festival in any one of two NCP Leicester car parks - Welford Road, LE2 7AD and East Street, LE1 6NB. NCP are offering a flat rate of £5 for any 24-hour period between midday Thursday 16 Aug until midday Monday 20 Aug. The NCP car parks are only 10 minutes' walk away, or a short bus ride. Simply take the NCP ticket from the parking machine at the entrance and when you get to the festival go to the staffed cloakroom in the main foyer of the Hall to have your ticket validated and activate the savings. When leaving the car park just put your validated ticket in the payment machine at the car park, pay as normal, and leave via the exit barrier.

BLUE BADGE HOLDERS

A number of places are reserved for people with severe mobility problems to park close to the Festival Main Entrance by Victoria Park but please note that spaces are limited and will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Please have your Blue Badge with you if you intend to park in this area.
