MA Digital Arts

Digital technology has embedded itself so deeply in creative practice, that it is no longer questioned as a tool or medium. But digital arts students, are encouraged to explore the theoretical implications of this technology. And whether this is looking at production of, or the interaction with an artwork, a project proposal will allow the student to embark on detailed research into the contextual and practical aspects of the project. The use of blogs and wikis by all students and staff, is vital to encouraging collaboration and building a dynamic cohort, based across the UK, Europe and the globe. This medium along with seminars, lectures and tutorials, allow the student to engage in both the practical and theoretical issues that underpin their practice within the arena of digital arts and new media.

Whether the course is being studied form distance [online] or here at Camberwell, the student is expected to engage in detailed and challenging research. The distance mode of the course runs completely online and attendance is not required at any point. Themed exhibitions and events are aimed at developing communication between the modes of delivery, and enhancing the student experience by expanding the cohort to the whole MA cohort. Importantly these events allow the students to explore the possibilities of communication in the digital era.

This project is an exploration of our understanding of personality. The body [object] casts shadows [the personality]. But these shadows only exist because of light. The light comes from our daily influences, and environments. Using motion graphics, I have tried to explore how our many personalities exist.

Inherent to the computer are both the artistic possibility and problematic nature of its power. This cannot be ignored as merely an aspect of digital art; instead, it is its consequences that I confront. Through the innovations of Ernie Gehr and Peter Campus, I investigate perception, the locus of meaning-making for the moving image.

My focus is on the consumption age. I explores aspects of consumer culture and the affection of economic development. I've had a passion for re-combining the images via digital medium. My aim is to portray what is going on in consumer age.

The work attempts to illustrate the idea of energy, motion and time which is present in everyday life. Through research and exploration of time based artists such as Bill Viola, Darren Almond, Eadweard Muybridge and Giacomo Balla, it was possible to approach the theme form various perspectives.

"All is not gold that glitters, and even in Japan- the country about which so many have raved, and about which so few have had anything but good to tell- everything is not perfect; but then what country or man is perfect?"
