The Ocean Colour Scene story should already be the stuff of legends; a rip-roaring rock'n'folk odyssey set to a backdrop of 23 years of UK pop culture at its very best. The band formed in Moseley, Birmingham in 1989 and soon found success with early Stone Roses inspired singles Sway (1990) and Yesterday Today (1991). They made the transition from the baggy era through the support of Paul Weller, who asked the band to tour with him in 93, with their ace guitarist Steve Cradock going on to feature on all Weller's albums since. Noel Gallagher also offered a hand asking the band to tour with Oasis in 1995 after hearing their demo.

Ocean Colour Scene have notched up nine albums, three of which went Top 5 – 1996's Moseley Shoals, 1997's Marchin' Already and 1999's One From The Modern – and a run of nine successive Top 20 hit singles commencing with 1996's era defining classic The Riverboat Song, which contained one of the guitar solos of the decade. They supported Oasis at their massive Knebworth shows that same year, and two years later helmed the biggest arena tour of any UK band to date.

With memorable hits like The Day We Caught The Train, The Circle, Hundred Mile High City, Travellers Tune, Better Day and Profit In Peace they became million-selling Britpop superstars. Marchin' Already bumped Oasis' What's the Story... from the top spot in 1997. Over the last decade the band have maintained a devoted following with successful tours and albums. Vocalist Simon Fowler has guested with Kate Rusby whilst Steve Cradock has recently recorded and toured with Amy MacDonald. 2010's excellent Saturday kept fantastic songwriting and musicianship to the fore, as displayed on the sublime title track and northern soul influenced single Magic Carpet Days, proving they're still at the top of their game.
