Katy B

There's something very original and likeable about South London's energetic pop tour de force Katy B who joins us for this year's festival. She's a new breed of pop star, effortless and true to herself, with the songs, the skill and a fearless voice to match the hype.

Coming out of Peckham, her parents supported her early musical ambitions and enrolled her in the Brit School at 14. At 17 she began providing vocals for various dance tracks, working with pirate radio Rinse FM founder and producer Geeneus to cover the track Good Life, who spotted her talents early and began collaborating with her long term.

Her debut single was the breakthrough hit Katy On A Mission. Released in August 2010 and produced by Benga, it gave her the first of 3 consecutive Top Ten UK hits, with Lights On (featuring Ms Dynamite) reaching number 4 in December 2010 and Broken Record reaching number 8 in March 2011.

Katy's debut album was conceived over a three year period with mentor Geeneus and a host of top name producers. On a Mission was released in April 2011 peaking at number 2 in the UK charts. It is the definition of the modern sound of London, providing her assured vocal with a palette of the city's latest club sounds from house, dubstep and UK garage to drum'n'bass and RnB. It's an impressive record with every track a potential single, including the minimal electro drum attack of funky Dissapear to the laid back, jazzy Hard To Get (featuring her heartfelt, unselfconscious thank you's at the end of the track).

"It's easy to believe that Katy B was born to be a chart-topper. That giant beaming grin, the boundless impishness of her vocal; how she stamps her personality all over her music with such ageless excitement…such a natural thrill that only those with hearts of steel won't find something to love."
