Living in lockdown was not what I expected. As the weeks pass, I wonder how to respond, seeking to connect a strong exterior with turbulent emotions. I created Homo Solitaire, a mechanical animation who waits alone, watching the lockdown body-count increase daily on TV, hearing words of doom from politicians and the disquiet of barely-recognisable 'Happy Birthday' and 'Sorrow'. To this world one-step removed from reality I created another level of distance, a virtual copy in Second Life. I can visit Homo solitaire there. Sometimes, it feels like home.
