Jez Noond - '7 Degrees of Freedom'

Broadway Media Centre, Broad St, Hockley. Visiting times: every half hour between 6pm-8.30pm. Free.

7 Degrees of Freedom refers to the 6 motion and rotation functions for virtual environments with addition of a 7th: time. Utilising the new Broadway Media Centre gallery, 7DOF explores the potential for new heterotopic social space offered by Virtual Reality. The installation attempts to alter the gallery's function by transforming it into a visitors room for a virtual prison; visiting time for the gallery becomes a layered experience in that it is also visiting time for the prison. Once inside the gallery, visitors are permitted to communicate with other visitors and visit inmates in their cells by using computer equipment.

7DOF is a collaboration between Jez Noond, and Dave Snowdon and Steve Benford from the University of Nottingham's Computer Science Dept. Computer knowledge is not needed to enjoy and take part in this event.

Admittance free, but ticket needed. Limited terminal access - see Broadway box office for details.
