Sarah Tutt - 'Éscàlërâ'

The Exchange Arcade, Exchange Buildings East. 12noon - 5pm. Free

Inspired by the enchanting, sometimes mysterious, magic of staircases (often used in films as the setting for senses of glamour and horror), 'Éscàlërâ' is a new work for European city centres. A sculptural stairway will be installed beneath the glass dome of Exchange Arcade, on which Our Lady of Velvet Hearts, Our Lady of Passion and Our Lady of Bubbles will ascend and descend, exploring the space between heaven and hell, flight and drowning, bravery and fear. The premiéres of these 3 'Staircase Spectaculars' (which combine text, soundtrack, film and colourful costume) can be experienced from 5 minutes to an hour and a half.
