Fri 31 Oct - Sun 2 Nov Caroline Rye - 'The Turin Machine' Sneinton Old School Hall, Windmill Lane (Nr. Green's Mill Windmill), Sneinton. 12pm-2pm & 3pm-5pm. Free The Turin Machine is an installation/performance whereby the audience views the artist (one at a time) through a viewing shutter inside a huge pin-hole camera. The artist's image is up-ended, reflected on a light-sensitive fabric. At the end of each day the fabric is put through a process that fixes the 'photograph' of the artists' body, thereby creating a 'shroud' that bears witness to the reality of the performance. Each day, the fabric is developed and suspended above the machine as an exhibition. The Turin Machine has been described as "..miraculous and deserves to be experienced whatever, wherever, whenever, because its space so beautifully embodies the solitary spiritual dimension and necessary responsibilities of becoming Human". Simon Jones, Liveartmagazine. Presented by Contemporary Archives in partnership with Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery. Commissioned by ARNOLFINI LIVE. [ Index | Previous Event | Next Event ] |
