The Land

“ Padma, Meghna, Jamuna- Our Identity.”

Bangladesh

Bangladesh is bordered by India on the east, west and north, and by the Bay of Bengal and a small border strip with Maynamar(Burma) on the south. Bangladesh is in the delta of three rivers: the Padma (Ganges), Jamuna(Brahmaputra) and the Meghna. These rivers are an important part of the physical environment of Bangladesh and play a very important role in the life of its people. 85 % of the land is flat. There are few hills in the north and southeast. In the south of the country, there is a huge marshy forest called the Sundarbans, the home of the famous Royal Bengal Tiger.

BangladeshWith its countless squares of verdant cropland, luxurious tropical forest, meandering rivers and abundance of sunshine, Bangladesh creates a land of unforgettable peace and fascinating beauty. Nature’s beauty and bounty have inspired endless variety of folk music of exquisite quality.
Bangladesh has a tropical monsoon climate, characterised by a season of heavy rains. There are basically four seasons in a year – winter (December-February), summer (March-May), Monsoon (June-September) and autumn (October-November).
