Strawbees Catapult Challenge Night

oining in with Leicester Hackspace Strawbees Catapult challenge is fairly straight forward, come to our Challenge Night, build the best Catapult (judging rules below) and have your chance to win a Raspberry Pi (Version 1 Model B) for you to keep. We also have a load of other swag to be won, including Arduino Nano's, Sugru, stickers and patches for the runners up.

Strawbee is a way of joining drinking straws together to make epic structures with recycled plastics. Find out more about Strawbee at strawbees.com

So, now for the rules:

1. You can use any tools you want, but your final Catapult may only use the parts provided
2. The catapult must be able launch a single golf ball sized airflow ball (provided)
3. The catapult must be fixed to the table
4. Launch must be executable by the judge (under your guidance and instruction of course)

Points will be awarded for:

1. The distance you manage to launch your airflow ball horizontally
2. The amount of parts you use (the less parts you use the more points you will get)
3. Posting an instructable about how you built your catapult (so make sure you take lots of pictures and bring a laptop or smartphone)

and here is of some of the equipment that will be provided (there will be some extra bits on the day):

1. Strawbees joints (we have a Crazy Scientists Kit which has 1034 for all of you to use)
2. Straws
3. Rubber bands
4. Sugru (be aware it takes time to set)
5. Sellotape (not an unlimited supply)
6. Spare golf ball sized airflow balls (for trailing your holding method)

I will be getting to the Hackspace for 18:00, and the launch will be at 21:00, giving you 3 hours to build, test and write up your instructable for the catapult.

Winners and prizes will be given out that night, soon after the final launch.
