Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2014, 19:00
Venue: Martin Hall Theatre, Loughborough University

Talk/Action is an evening of new work by artists Cally Spooner, Imogen Stidworthy and Gary Stevens focused on speech, conversation and communication. Each will present a new performance that has arisen through discussion with academics from the University's Discourse and Rhetoric Group (Department of Social Sciences) .
Each work will involve a set of performers that the artists have worked with to further develop their interest in language and social interaction. Some works have used the conversation analysis undertaken by the academics very directly (Cally Spooner has had a conversation between Lance Armstrong and journalists from the Daily Mail, in which the shamed cyclist apparently confesses feelings of remorse over his drug-use transcribed and analysed to see what is revealed), while other works have a more generic interest in the voice, using it both individually and as a 'cloud' of several voices, to explore its properties and its ability to have emotional impact on the viewer.
