Broken Mic is a genuinely alternative Open Mic performance opportunity for the unconventional, the anachronistic, the archaic and the just plain odd.
As well as space for artists to turn up and play, we have featured performances from Internationally acclaimed circuit-bender and soundscape artist, ASMO; performing his Clinical Depression Concept Album, the smiling face of personal trauma, DAVE PARKIN; the sideways songsmithery of the solo artist "CARLOS STEIN's SURROGATE BAND"; The BEELIACS; tourettic guitar jackrabbit, SHOUTY SHIT STUFF; the buddha of erudite entropy, SHANE BORDOLI; masters (and mistresses) of the miniature, THE N'UKES UKULELE BAND; the shimmering sonics of Quadelectronic's MEMORY WIRE; and whatever the hell T.E.DEVILISH is up to at the moment.
Guitarists are always welcome but we particularly want to hear unusual songs and interesting instruments, whether they be cellos, bowed saws, tea-chest basses, accordians, laptops running Ableton, rewired children's toys or lone nutters with MP3 backing tracks who want to try out material on an unwitting audience. Come along. Bring a broad mind and a supportive attitude. We're not a regular event (in any sense) so catch us while you can!
Anyone who is anyone will be at this event. If you are not sure, just come along anyway, you might even discover something new and exiting, then wonder where the heck you have been all this time!
