Sounds From The Ground

Sounds From The Ground formed in late 1995 and are based in their studio in Waterloo, London. Both members, Elliot Morgan Jones and Nick Woolfson have had previous experience of label management and club promotion and met through mutual friends in the underground dance scene in the capital.

Sounds From The Ground's musical style is best described as sophisticated ambient dub. The duo's first recording was the now legendary 10 minute epic entitled 'Triangle' described by Melody Maker as one of the first 'sexy ambient cuts'.

This was quickly followed by another stunning composition 'Gather' which established the act's producton skills, by this time the sound had been noted by various heads and ears and tracks by Sounds From The Ground were being licensed to Coldcut's N-Tone label and Beyond Records' 'Ambient Dub' collections.

The duo then put their energy into recording their debut long player. The end result was a magical blend of emotions conjuring up an endless journey through sound and rhythms. Warm, deep and funky this eight song collection was presented to the world under the title 'Kin'.

The LP was released Europe wide and also in the USA by The Waveform Corporation where it entered the college dance charts at No 10 and stayed in them for 13 weeks.

In London, Sounds From The Ground started to put a public face to their music by DJing at events such as The Big Chill Gala, Zion Train's Bass Odyssey and South London's Brixton Academy.

After a successful promotional trip to the west coast of the USA they are set to release newly recorded tracks such as 'Snow' - featured on the CD 'Vibes Vol 1' released by The Big Chill and 'Planted' and 'Treasure' which make appearances on the 'Sound Information' collection.

An eagerly awaited second album is in it's final stages and features a collaboration with the poet Benjamin Zephaniah.
