Robert Charlesworth

Robert Charlesworth

London based Robert Charlesworth has been creating his distinctive pastoral texturescapes for almost 20 years and yet his initial CD release was 1995's 'Music for the Third Ear' on Universal Egg. Critically acclaimed around the world it saw the unknown, reclusive Charlesworth reaching an enthusiastic and appreciative audience.

As the man behind one of the 'legendary' cassette label of the early 80's DIY music scene, Carnival, Charlesworth was responsible for releases by such experimental luminaries as New 7th Music, Peter North, Bourbonese Qualk and Paul Kelday. He was also the guru behind lo-fi pioneers The Swinging Fishermen and The Charlesworth Family. Solocassette releases like 'Nest of Harbours', 'Hanging Rock' and 'Flag Oven Shark' established Charlesworth as a musical force.

His deliberate and beautiful sounds are created at his 'Lizard' studio, as the have been for the last 2 decades, utilising 6 & 12 string guitars, Xylophone, Bass, analogue and digital synths and a multitude of 'little instruments'.

Robert Charlesworth's musical inspirations range from the brilliant arrangements of Nelson Riddle to Ali Akbar Khan, Joy Division, Laraaji, Sinatra, Eno, Mingus, Roy Castle and Paul Weller.

He is a great fan of film and has ambitions to score for moving images, as well as future plans to collaborate with Indian and European musicians and create the perfect pastry. Interviews with Mr Charlesworth seldom occur but inquiries are invited.
