Marineville Marineville is Dave & Steve. Dave spent the last few years as a co-conspirator behind fucked-up techno outfit Sink America and played an integral part in the Shiva Shanti Collective, responsible for some of the more inventive/exotic events and parties in the North East during the early nineties. Sink America contributed a track to the anti-CJB benefit project CD "Off the Map" and have 2 outstanding cassette only albums "Oh My Gosh" and "They Must Be On Drugs", released on the Dizzy Positivity Recordings imprint. Steve spent a lot of time working with various jazz outfits and further sharpened his musical talents busking around Europe. A chance encounter brought the duo together at one of the Shiva Shanti events, which in March '96, resulted in an embryonic version of Marineville performing a sound installation for an exhibition at the Tyneside Globe Gallery and a visual/sound display that took place in a derelict underground car park. Inspired by these early explorations, their debut cassette only album 'An Ecluded Front', again on Dizzy Positivity Recordings, was an underground success. This generated substantial interest in their activities and received radio airplay across Europe and into Russia. They also make regular live outings playing house parties, festivals and shindigs out in the woods of Northumberland. These diverse environments and experiences have had a massive impact on shaping the distinctive/eclectic sound. the unique slant on Drum'n'Bass with sliding excursions into hip-hop beats, jazz melodies, all firmly underpinned with throbbing electronica and ambient textures. Marineville have recently contributed an exclusive track to the 'Marconi Point' CD compilation alongside Zoviet France, Penumbra, Rapoon, Muslimgauze, Zuvuya and others. This project is a benefit for Edinburgh's Autonomous Centre. They also feature a track on the sampler CD for Universal Egg 'The Egg Files'. A series of label live events were organised over the summer and an album should follow soon. Biography written by Dizzy Gary. |
