Extremadura Extremadura are a group of musicians trained in various musical expertise ranging from conventional instrumental training to extreme sound manipulation meaning that Extremadura recordings always possess a uniquely eclectic feel. The ensemble is headed by Dave Tench who oversees the general content and structure of the sound but has included Quawali singers, tabla players, Gregorian chanters, midi programmers and DJs. Extremadura's musical influences include devotional music from around the world ranging from dub music to the chanting of Tibetan monks and all sorts of dance music from techno to big beats, meaning that their productions end up having a beautiful mixture of the organic and the elecronic, beats and ambience combined in a unique enchanting fashion. Extremadura's debut album 'Pulses' gained critical acclaim worldwide and has continued to sell well to this date since its 1996 release on the Univeral Egg imprint. As well as working on their next album in the Wibbly Wobbly World Of Music, Extremadura are involved in a collaborative project which entails experimental musicians from around the world reprocessing material originally generated by Extremadura - the musicians involved in this project include Zoviet France and Zion Train from England, Technoise/Hyware from the Netherlands, Merzbow from Japan, Unitone Hi Fi from New Zealand and The Crooklyn Dub Consortium from USA. The sound sources involved in this project, as well as including studio generated sounds also include various field recordings, both natural ambiences and recordings of Tribal people, collected by Dave Tench in his extensive travels and now to be manipulated by some of the best sound magicians around today. |
