FASHION AND CULTURE CLASHIN'

I don't really like skirts much, but recently I bought this skirt 'cos I like my legs and when I go out I want to show them off!
That's how I am that's what I want to do…

It's not too short, it's about knee length, but normally I would not wear a short skirt 'cos I don't like them.
I always check that my Mum knows I'm going out, and if she's alright with what I'm wearing, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Most Asian people would have some right things to say about a girl going out in a short skirt; especially a teeny weeny short skirt!
But my Mum says are you sure you're gonna wear that? I said yeah I'll wear it otherwise it's gonna sit in the cupboard, and I'm like yeah I will, and she says fine. So she bought it.

Indian girls are a lot into what English girls want to wear and it causes a clash.
Hindu girls think some clothes are really tarty, but the majority of them like wear skin tight trousers and small tops and all that kind of thing.
They're into that like exactly the same as white girls, but their parents are totally against it. That's why when you see them leave the house they'll be totally covered up, not loads, but like if they're wearing something short they'll change when they go to someone else's house and then they'll go out.
It's not what their parents would want them to wear or to be seen out in.

That is quite common for teenagers in general I think, but one of the reasons it's worse for Hindus is that if there is an old lady walking down the street, saw me in a short mini skirt with a short, short tank top, then it goes around the whole place, round the whole of Loughborough, and round the whole of England!
All the Indians would be saying yeah I saw that girl in a short skirt wearing this, like how come her Mum let her out like this kind of thing. It's a lot of that. The parents would get the blame.

And I have a lot of respect for my parents, but also I'm a tomboy, so I wouldn't choose to dress like that anyway.
