The files in this archive are to be used with DEMO4 and REND386 written by
Dave Stampe and Bernie Roehl. Thanks for the renderer guys! How about some
more apps!

This file contains Checker 1.0 and an example world built with the help
of checker.

To put up the world make sure you have all the files in your
directory with DEMO4.EXE and type GO this will put up the world for you.

Checker was written in the effort to get more people to build interesting
worlds to use with REND386 and DEMO4. It is its first release and still
needs at least one bug fix I am aware of. You must enter an odd number for
the number of rows and/or columns you use. If you don't the plane will not
be checkered.

In the future I would like to expand on this concept. By making it easier
for people to build worlds, VR will have a better chance of taking off into
the mainstream. I am going to try to improve the program by making the user
able to enter in various objects and where they want them such as saying they
want a cube or sphere and in the middle of the world and so on. Keeping every-
thing to basics so the user will not have to learn a scripting language either
will be a goal. I realize this limits the variety and detail in the worlds
but it will get people to use the stuff more. Maybe if things go real well
some other people will expand on this idea and help create a complete user-
friendly world builder. A checkerboard floor or ceiling is simple and could
be done away with if texture mapping ever gets into the game but its a start!

What I am doing right now is collecting simple objects to include in the world
builder. I have quite a few and even have wrote a program to let you place
them into the worlds but haven't gotten all the bugs out for a new release yet
and want to get more into it. I am working on placing walls and doors so users
can also create buildings but that going slow so far.

Well let me know what you think and I'll keep working on it if anyone thinks
it's worth a darn. I can be reached on the Internet at:

                        so92332@gsvms2.cc.gasou.edu

or on Zarno BBS at (706) 860-2927. There is a local VR confernce set up in
Augusta Ga. to try to get some interaction going. At the time me and the
sysop of the board are trying to get the conference to go RIME. This will
allow international discussion on the topic for free to anyone who can dial
up a BBS that gets the RIME conference. RIME is an international mail system
that is used on many BBS's. If you local BBS has RIME conferences on it tell
you sysop to send mail to Tim Saari in simething like the C or CAD conference
saying that he/she will carry the VR conf. if it goes. If you local BBS does
not have RIME you might suggest to your Sysop to see if he/she can get RIME
mail and carry such a conference. This conf. would allow free access to dis-
cussion of all the stuff we all love to talk about and free for everyone!

Anyway to leave me (Todd Porter) mail on the BBS just call it and leave the
mail in the main message area or send it out through the C rime or CAD rime
network on your BBS and I'll get it. By the way there is also a file area on
Zarno for VR and related stuff. I contains most of the stuff found on the
internet and alot of the stuff found on Cserve. You also can get FREE access
to the files and the message bases. Only thing you pay is long-d bill :)
